How a two-month Reddit and editorial campaign produced an 800K-view viral moment and lifted AI impressions 74% across ChatGPT, Gemini, and Google's AI experiences.
The client is one of the most recognisable outdoor gear brands in the world, a name that has equipped campers, grillers, and road-trippers for generations. Recognition was never the problem. By early 2026, discovery was.
Consumer research was shifting fast toward AI-powered search experiences: ChatGPT, Google AI Overview, Gemini, and Google AI Mode. These engines were reshaping how buyers compare products and make purchasing decisions, and traditional SEO alone was no longer enough to influence the recommendations they generate. The brand needed a strategy that could improve visibility inside AI-generated answers while strengthening search visibility across high-intent cooler-related keywords, right as it brought a genuinely new product innovation to market.
We designed a combined Reddit and AI-SEO visibility campaign aimed at influencing both human readers and AI systems. The core idea: Reddit discussions and authoritative editorial content that rank organically in search engines become persistent visibility signals for AI engines.
Discussions were published around high-intent keywords such as "collapsible hard cooler," "collapsible cooler," and "space saving cooler," in authentic, topic-relevant communities including r/camping, r/grilling, r/VanLife, and r/Coolers. Every thread was written in a natural user-to-user style to maintain authenticity and encourage engagement, supported by AI-SEO optimized Yahoo and Business Insider placements, with visibility tracked across Reddit, Google Search, Google AI Overview, ChatGPT, and Ahrefs AI data.
The campaign's breakout came from showing, not telling. A video post demonstrating the product's headline innovation, the world's first collapsible hard cooler, was placed in one of Reddit's largest viral-content communities, where genuinely novel products are exactly what members come to see.
The post generated over 800,000 views, 5,000+ upvotes, and 200+ comments, putting the innovation in front of a mainstream audience no product announcement could have reached, and creating a high-engagement discussion asset that search engines and AI systems continue to index.
Between March and April 2026, we launched 12 Reddit discussions across major outdoor, camping, grilling, and recreation communities. Each discussion targeted a specific search-driven question optimized for visibility in both Reddit search and Google indexing, and several individually surpassed 20,000 to 37,000 views within weeks.
Alongside Reddit, we published two AI-SEO optimized articles: "Best Portable Cooler for Convenience Like Never Before (2026)" and "Best Premium Cooler for Outdoor Leaders and Enthusiasts (2026)." Together, these assets created a combination of community-generated discussion signals and high-authority editorial citations designed to maximize both search visibility and AI visibility.
The campaign generated more than 134,000 views across the 12 seeded discussions, on top of the 800K+ viral moment. The article placements added 4,700+ direct reads and over 2,900 combined Google and AI engine visits, reaching a potential audience of more than 164 million readers.
Beyond raw engagement, the campaign delivered measurable gains across every AI-powered search environment tracked.
As campaign content gained visibility, the brand was increasingly surfaced in AI-generated responses, recommendations, and comparison queries. Google AI Overviews began citing campaign assets across multiple targeted cooler-related keywords, with both Reddit discussions and editorial placements appearing inside AI-generated summaries. The gains extended into Google AI Mode, where the brand appeared more frequently in recommendation and comparison-style responses, and ChatGPT cited the discussions directly.
AI Share of Voice increased steadily during and immediately following the campaign, indicating stronger competitive positioning within the AI-generated recommendations where users compare products and evaluate buying options. The continued growth after publication demonstrates how AI systems keep discovering and referencing content long after campaigns are completed.
Reddit drove the majority of citations and authority signals behind the brand's AI visibility, with the Yahoo and Business Insider placements reinforcing trust signals on top. This aligns with the broader trend the whole program is built on: AI systems increasingly rely on authentic community discussions and authoritative editorial content when generating product recommendations, and they reward both with long-term visibility.
